Vintage Virginia Apples ...from the rich orchard heritage of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains Freyburg |
|

|
FREYBURG is a Golden Delicious/Cox's Orange Pippin cross introduced in New Zealand in 1934, by J. H. Kidd, developer of Gala. A medium-sized, somewhat unattractive yellow dessert apple. Underneath this common-appearing exterior is a variety of sweet, slightly aciduous flavors, including anise. Fruit is medium to sometimes small, light-green to pale-yellow; occasionally has a light-grey russet. Flavor is outstanding, sweet to very sweet, with a cocktail of flavors. Texture is fine and juicy, and flesh color is creamy-white to white. Matures late September to early October. |
