 Vintage Virginia Apples

...from the rich orchard heritage of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains

Holstein

HOLSTEIN is an open-pollinated seedling of Cox's Orange Pippin from Eutin, Holstein, Germany, found in 1918. Larger in size than Cox's Orange Pippin, the skin is a deep yellow with varying red flush, and is often russeted. The creamy-yellow flesh of this dessert apple is firm, juicy, and very aromatic. A triploid that will not pollinate other varieties, the spreading tree is a vigorous grower. It is very scab resistant, but the flowers are prone to damage by spring frosts. Holstein stores well and ripens in September.
