Vintage Virginia Apples ...from the rich orchard heritage of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains Honeycrisp |
HONEYCRISP is new from the University of Minnesota, and is one of the highest quality dessert apples, especially in the northern United States. Fruit is large to very large, conic, red over light-green in color. Flavor is a near perfect balance of sugar and acids. Texture is very crisp, yet not hard. Ripens with MacIntosh, about Sept 5 in southern Indiana. Tree is moderately vigorous, precocious and productive. Preharvest drop is a problem in warmer growing districts. It also has a lackluster color except in the higher elevations of the more southern states. |
