Vintage Virginia Apples ...from the rich orchard heritage of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains Karmijan de Sonnaville |
KARMIJAN DE SONNAVILLE originated in the Netherlands, and is a cross of Cox's Orange Pippin and Jonathan. The round fruit, variable in shape, is a red-orange over a greenish-yellow background, with some russeting around the blossom end. The yellowish flesh is coarse, juicy and very acidic. Storage of this high-flavored dessert variety will reduce the acidity. Moderately vigorous, the tree is spreading and fairly productive, but it is subject to preharvest drop. Karmijan ripens in September. |
