Contest Category I: Apple Pies

Little is more comforting or reminiscent of childhood days or country ways than a slice of freshly baked apple pie. In the Kitchen magazine and Vintage Virginia Apples are offering a $50 reward for the Best Homemade Apple Pie in the region. You are invited to bring your freshly baked Apple Pie to the Apple Harvest Festival at Rural Ridge Farm on November 1, 2008.

THE RULES ARE SIMPLE :

  • Present one freshly baked homemade apple pie before 11am on Saturday, November 1.
  • Bring your pie or your dish in a disposable 8-10 inch pie pan or baking pan with a card containing your name, address, and phone number; the recipe used; and the varieties of the apples used in your pie or apple dish.
  • Pies will become the property of the Cove Garden Ruritan Club. Slices from the entries will be offered for sale for their benefit once the judging has concluded.
  • Pies and dishes will be judged on appearance, taste, and texture

Rowena Morrel, publisher of In The Kitchen and the Kitchen Sleuth, Ron Wade, will be on hand for the contest.
