Ayers Pear

ayers

AYERS PEAR is an old, southern grown, European pear, often refereed to as the Sugar Pear. The medium size fruit is very flavorful and sweet. It has so much natural sugar it melts in your mouth. The pulp of this pear has so much sugar in it, that if dried for fruitcakes or fresh eating, one is reminded of lemon drops or gelatin candy. Ayers trees are vigorous, upright, and blight-resistant. The chilling requirement is high. The fruit is an attractive yellow with red blush. The blooming period is early. Cross pollination is needed for fruit set. Ripens in September. The tree grows to 5 feet and is hardy in USDA Zones 5 to 7.
