Flemish Beauty Pear

flemish beauty

FLEMISH BEAUTY is an antique pear variety introduced about 1810 by van Mons. It is a very winter-hardy pear, hardy to -40F, with a clear yellow fruit that is good for eating or canning. The fruit has excellent dessert quality – and is aromatic, well-balanced, with a rich flavor. Its large, round fruit is sometimes pear-shaped. The fruit is large, blushed, and attractive, with good flavor. It is particularly good for home gardeners in cold areas. The trees are blight susceptible, precocious and productive. The fruit are high in quality, but requires careful timing of harvest to obtain full flavor and freedom from breakdown. Precocious and productive. Early ripening. Flemish Beauty was at one time a leading commercial variety, but is susceptible to fireblight.
