...from the rich orchard heritage of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains Peregrine Peach |

PEREGRINE is the most well-known and popular white fleshed peach. This old white peach is to peaches what Cox's Orange Pippin is to apples (that is, the standard of excellence), except that where Cox is a bit temperamental to grow, the Peregrine is one of the easiest peaches to grow. It has a very sweet flesh, and it has a red flush on white skin. This is a heavy cropping variety. It is one of the best-known varieties because of its reliability and flavor. Skin is almost fuzzless like a nectarine. Will produce better in cool summers and warm winters than most other varieties. Brilliant red skin is thin and fuzzless. Ripens in early September. Originated in England. Introduced to the U.S. in 1906. It is best picked when ripe, but can be frozen and later stewed or eaten thawed. |
