SALEM has excellent color, firmness and size. A whole-tree mutation of 'Loring' from New Jersey. A very attractive, large (2.75 inch diameter) yellow fleshed freestone peach. Fifty to 95% of the surface is colored red. Harvest season is Aug. 1 to Aug. 8. The freestone flesh is firm, the suture is prominent, and the flavor is fair. Shows resistance to winter cold and bacterial spot. Ripens two weeks ahead of Loring, about August 7. |
