...from the rich orchard heritage of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains Tsu Li Pear |

|
TSU LI has been
grown in Shantung Province, Northern China, for thousands of years. The fruit is large, ovate-pyriform with no distinct neck, irregular, lumpy and yellow with large prominent tan lenticels. Its crisp, juicy, sweet flesh has a trace of tartness and a distinct aroma. It ripens in mid-late September. This pear has a sweet, aromatic flavor, among the tastiest of Asian pears. It should be stored for a while before eating – it is not edible right off the tree. It is an excellent variety for storage. The tree blooms very early, so it is especially susceptible to late spring frosts. It does have some fire blight tolerance and seems to be damaged less by insects than by Japanese varieties. It needs 300 hours of chill and is less productive in areas with short or cool summers.
